About us

Behind this shop there’s a family from Albalat de la Ribera who have spent their whole lives among orange trees. It’s worth knowing who we are before ordering a box, because it explains why this shop works the way it does.

Agustín Giner and Josefa Sifre

Agustín Giner and Josefa Sifre. Everything else comes from here.

It all starts with Agustín and Josefa

Agustín has devoted his whole life to growing his own orange trees. His path also took in years in Barcelona, where he ran a fruit and vegetable stall at Mercabarna, before going on to specialise in buying citrus wholesale. His experience covers the full cycle: he knows this product from the tree to the counter where you pick it out yourself.

Josefa, for her part, worked for years as a packer in citrus warehouses, a craft that has all but disappeared. The packer judges, piece by piece, which fruit is worthy of the box and which has to be set aside. It is the result of years of a trained eye, able to tell which fruit will still be at its best when it arrives.

If this shop breaks the usual moulds —if in August you find no oranges, or if the fruit in your box comes in different sizes— it is down to the way the two of them think. This is what fruit picked with a name and a surname means: picked for one particular person, not for the cold pile of a warehouse.

Why we sell it ourselves and nobody else

In 2011 their son Adrián founded Econatur Fruits on one fundamental premise: to guarantee that his parents’ work reached the end customer whole.

This model cuts out the unnecessary middlemen and the long spells in cold storage that tend to spoil the freshness of the fruit.

From the premises in Albalat de la Ribera we handle every order directly: we pick the fruit, prepare your box and send it on its way.

Thanks to this short circuit, we can certify the exact day of the harvest, something very few can claim.

We invite you to discover the thinking behind this commitment in From tree to table.

What changes when you buy here

It isn’t a turn of phrase: these are three concrete consequences of working this way.

Picked when you order it

We don't have fruit sitting in cold storage waiting for a buyer. Your box is picked the day we prepare the order.

There isn't always everything

We work by season, so there are months without mandarins and months without persimmons. What's available right now is in the shop.

No wax, no treatments

Nothing is applied after picking. That's why the peel can be zested, and why they're not all equally good-looking.

Shall we see what's in this week?

The shop only shows what’s being picked right now. If you’re looking for something that isn’t there, write to us and we’ll tell you when its season starts.
